Ida Bell Wells-Barnett was an American investigative journalist, educator, and early leader in the civil rights movement. She was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She befriended Susan B. Anthony and founded the Alpha Suffrage Club to promote Black woman’s suffrage. Upon visiting Boston, she joined with Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin in forming the Women’s Era Club for black women. Throughout her career, she worked tirelessly against lynching including exposing the reasons for it and holding white women suffragists accountable for ignoring lynching. #lwvcon22 #herstorymatters ...
